NETBALL - ADAPTING TO ACHIEVE ITS GOALS

Netball is an atheletic sport played primarily by females throughout the world. Just over 10 million girls and women as well as some men play this sport.

While talking about netball, politics and health often comes into the equation... lets talk about that too.

Together we will mix it up for the betterment of everyone concerned.

Barbados Thrashed! « Netball Shots

Here is Pam Proverbs view of that match between Barbados and Jamaica

Barbados Trashed! « Netball Shots

BARBADOS LOST THE DECIDER TO JAMAICA 54-19

Well Barbados Under 16 team did not produce the type of game necessary to stop the tall Jamaican goal shooter (6ft 9 ins) and so lost the all important encounter disappointingly...54-19.

It must be admitted that there was little that the Barbados defence could do on a one of one situation with the JA goal shooter. But the question must be asked what contributed to so many of Barbados's centre passes being stolen, and what was the difficulty in the attack getting the ball to the Barbadian goal circle as we only had 29 attempts. Is it the same old same old again. i.e.....
Barbadian players were at a decided height disadvantage in all parts of the court. Is there nothing that can be done to nullify what is a height disadvantage?
Just a note on the Jamaican goal shooter...She was introduced to the sport three months before last year's Under 16 tournament, having not played the game before. Her motor skills, passing ability, and general netball skills leave a lot to be desired. Yet she is able to cause her team to win!!!!!!!!

Bdos wins Second game in Under 16 tournament

Taken from Pamala Proverbs report:

"Barbados easily dispatched Dominica 40-7 in their morning match of the 10th CNA Jean Pierre U16 Competition. In a match like this what Barbados should have been looking to do is boost their goal average since winning the game was a forgone conclusion. Interval scores were 9-3, 22-6, and 32-6.
Coach Julie Phillips used this opportunity to introduce two new shooters, and try out some different shooting combinations. Their shooting stats is as follows:
Chemayne Alleyne 29-21, Shannon Hackett 10-6, Tonisha Rock-Yaw 10-5 and Mariah Greenidge 11-8.
For Dominica Andrea Remy scored 6 of 12, Merissa Hypolite 1of 2 and Simone Gleen was goalless from 2 attempts."

Q1: 21-9
Q2: 38-19
Q3: 52-35
Q4: 67-54

Jamaica's netball deserves more help - JAMAICAOBSERVER.COM

Jamaica's netball deserves more help - JAMAICAOBSERVER.COM

I believe every country in the Caribbean can identify with these sentiments.
Barbados recognised the importance of competition other than against its neigbors leading up to the world championships in 2003. As a result of playing aginst Australia, New Zealand, England, South Africa and Jamaica , Barbados landed a 7th place world ranking.

Barbados just went on a tour of South Africa , which caused its rating to drop to twelve at this time.

Girls whip S'Africa - JAMAICAOBSERVER.COM

Jamaica won the first game against Trinidad and Tobago 59-30 and have defeated South Africa, but are yet to lessen the number of unforced errors in the 60 minutes of a netball game.
South AFrica, obviously not up to the standard of the SA teams of the late 1990's and struggling.

Jamaica Gleaner News - JNA in need of $5m for tri-nation series - Tuesday | September 23, 2008

You know sometimes I get really tired of the way national netball associations , as well as some others, have to be literraly begging for help for its national netballers to represent their country.

We need to get this thing right in the Caribbbean especially with our team sports.

Good luck Jamaica and I hope the business houses and other interested persons come through for you guys.

cheers

The Nation Newspaper | Barbados out of hosting CNA Under 16 tournamnt

The Nation Newspaper | Barbados out

Really... the above story speaks to Barbados passing up the opportunity to host the CNA Under 16 tournament in 2009 under the guise that the netball stadium will be being refurbished ....and who are we kidding. Did the Barbados netball Association get something in writting from the powers that be with respect to the stadium I know they did not.
Was not the 2006 AFNA qualifiers held at the gymnasium while the same plans for the refurbishment of the stadium were on the cards?

Did Barbados really pass up this opportunity to host this tournament and allow Jamaica- the alternate host to organise the tournament ... and will Barbados be able to host in 2010?

And what nonsense is this about Barbados not benefitting from their Under 16 teams...The goal defence in the 2008 Barbados team was this year's under 16 captain. The goal attack played under 16 , then under 21 and now senior in 2008. The Browne sisters all played under 16, under 21 and seniors. And the list goes on...one could go back to Julie Phillips and Denise Alleyne, Olivia Walcott etc who played in what was then a school girls team, then played under 21 and then seniors. The record is there, we don't have to rely on anyone's memory.

You know I am tired of persons who should know misrepresenting what happens in sport in this country.

enough said.

Netball Shots - Jamaica wins AFNA championships on a trot

Netball Shots

I gather from this distance that this championship would not inspire the Region's netball fans that we are ready and able to take on the top countries in the world.
Canada must be very pleased with their performance especially in their game against Barbados.
FINAL MATCHES:
BARBADOS 59 - CANADA 44
JAMAICA 53 - TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO 32
ST. LUCIA 40 - ST. VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES 38
Barbados knew that if you fail to prepare then you must be prepared to fail. It is mindboggling that the sport would have gone back at least 10 years in terms of preparation time....about 4-5 weeks before tournament quad was called to trials!!!!!
Lets fix it everyone.

A BIG THANK YOU TO PAMALA PROVERBS BLOG"NETBALL SHOTS" FROM WHERE I GOT THE PICTURES AND UP TO DATE INFORMATION.
