Red letter day ... Melissa Walker with her termination letter on arrival at Nadi International Airport on Tuesday. She has since been reinstated in the job.

MELISSA Walker hopes to work closely with Netball Fiji officials after being reinstated as national netball coach, a day after being given the marching orders.

Walker's return as coach follows the intervention of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports to solve the impasse at Netball Fiji.

"We need to work together for the betterment of the sport,"Walker said.

"I never wanted this to happen. I have a job to do and I need the support of everyone. I'm happy to be back because it has been an emotional roller cosster with what's happened over the last few days."

Officials from the Department of Youth and Sport met executives of Netball Fiji to settle the impasse that led to her unceremonious sacking.

At the meeting, two resolutions were agreed upon:

n that Walker be re-engaged as Fiji's national netball coach; and

n that the Department of Youth and Sport will take the lead role in the development and administration of the sport until the end of the Mini-Games in September.

In addition, the department will conduct a thorough investigation into the affairs of the association.

"The ministry hopes that the agreed terms are for the good of sports in our country, and also for players, team managements and executives," a press statement said.

Filipe Bole, whose portfolio covers sport, had earlier expressed concern at Walker's removal saying his ministry was ready to assist Netball Fiji.

"While the ministry would not like to interfere with the administration of the association, it is merely declaring its responsibility as the ministry in charge of sports in the country," he said.

"The ministry's intervention is to try and resolve the impasse in the association.

"Walker has been doing a sterling job for the national netball team."
