Netball coaches call for more consistent umpiring in the semi pro league
Netball coaches call for more consistent umpiring - New Zealand's source for sport, rugby, cricket & league news on Stuff.co.nz
The problem of umpiring just will not go away...its happening in the Caribbean, Its happening in AFrica and now its happening in Australia/New Zealand in a major way. What is AFNA doing or going to do about it?
We need to sit up and listen when the top two countries are now having the same problems that the lower ranked nations have been articulating for years. Maybe now someone will have a serious look at the way different interpretations of the rules can affect the game.

Are we in netball not going to get this thing right? Why is the securing of umpires a problem where ever this sport is developing , but not where the sport has developed?

The Clubs want to meet with the Board ,And Umpiring under scrutiny Down Under
More than half of the Bdos Netball Associaiton's membership met and aired their concerns with respect to the functioning of the BNA Board of Directors during this year.
Coming out of that meeting, was a document listing some of the clubs' concerns and asking for a special general meeting to discuss these issues with a view to coming up with some solutions.
The letter was delivered to the BNA, and according to the consitution, it now has 14 days to call a special general meeting to disucss only the mentioned concerns on the agenda.
Lets hope that this is the first step towards bringing some level of corporation between the Board and its members so that Barbados netball can continue to progress.
While this has been happening, over in Australia and New Zealand a major argument is going on with respect to umpiring during the inaugural semi pro league which is being played in New Zealand and Australia.
The Aussies are arguing that the interpretations of the Kiwi and South AFrican umpires are affecting their teams, resulting in New Zealand having a decided home advantage.
The Aussies suggest that Australian umpires hold their whistle a lot longer, therefore lots of calls that are made when their teams play in New Zealand confuses the Aussie players. They even have statistics to prove that one team had 40 contact calls in four games played in Australia, while that same team had 70 contact calls in one game played in New Zealand!!!!!!!!
Maybe the Aussies are in a better position to understand the Caribbean players complaints at World championships about the adjustments they have to make when an Aussie is officiating their games.

Time to get on bandwagon and move forward
Netballers and Fans:
As you must be aware by now..things are not going alright in the adminstration of the sport of netball .
Some mistakes have been made, two members of the Board have resigned, Teams have been turning up to play and are unable to do so, either because of lack of umpires or court officials, and there is general disaffection with the 2008 league season.
The senior national program has started belated and some questions are also being asked of this program with respect to planning.
Now...the question is...what are we going to do about it..
The first step towards a solution is a proposed meeting of some clubs this Monday to discuss their disatisfaction and come up with a plan in going forward...
That's a good thing...at least these members are showing ownership of their sport and the willingness to act and not talk.
The other group...The Board...what are they doing? just having meetings and not saying anything to the stake holders of the sport.
The Board of the BNA needs to understand that the many decisions which they have or have not made in the name of Barbados Netball needs to be told to the members.
Too many things are not going according to plan and somebody needs to be held accountable..you know the new catch word in Barbados since elections..accountabililty, transparency and integrity.
The Bdos Umpires Association also has some questions to answer. To date it has not called its General Meeting for 2007, and the problems which surround the fixturing of umpires have multiplied to the state where it has a really bad affect on the games at the stadium.
Come on..lets put our heads together and go forward toward ensuring that this great sport gets back on track and moves forward in some tangible way.
This type of thing happens from time to time, so lets not despair , but resolve to be part of the solution and not part of the problem.
Be there on Monday.
